Brill-bogie 249

In
1904 Brill delivered the first bogie tramcar to Porto.
For many years this was the only bogie motor tram in Porto. Later
it gave the example for the series 270-277 which was built by the
workshops of the CCFP in 1926/8. The original number was 90, in 1907 the car as
renumbered into 190. Around 1913 it was renumbered again, this time
into 191, as a new series of trams was ordered from Brill which was to be
numbered 170-190. It was
equiped with 27G1 equal-wheel bogies and four motors. From 1918 until 1924 the
car was used as a trailer on the Marginal, probably with the number 8.
Already one year later there were plans to motorize it again together
with the 7 trailers on bogies which were contructed in 1910 by the
local company "A Constructora", but these plans were not
realized. Only in 1924 it got GE 270 motors and was numbered 226. The
other seven bogie trailers were never motorized. In the late forties
the car was renumbered into 249. About 1960 the bogies were replaced by maximum-traction trucks with a 55
hp motor each. In 1967 68 hp motors were fitted. In 1970 this car was sold to a museum in the
USA.
