Belgas 280-289

After the 1928 Boavista fire the CCFP needed urgently new tramcars. To fullfill this need, ten tramcars were ordered in Belgium at Ateliers de Construction de Familleureux. All cars were delivered already in 1928. Original the series was numbered 274-283, but the STCP increased the numbers of the first six cars with 10, making the series 280-289.

Technically the Belgas are familiar with the American style Brill de Bogies built by the CCFP in 1926/8. However their outward with large windows is in European style.

The 281 was scrapped in 1967, the 282 in 1982. The 286 and 289 were withdrawn in 1973, the last one now is in the Algarve. The others were working mainly on line 1 until the closure in 1994 of this line. Except for the 285, but like the Brill de Bogie 277, their last workings were extras on line 18 between Boavista and Foz in 1995. Since 1997 the 283 & 287 returned into service, however they are seldom used. The 288 is restaured in its original condition, to be exposed in the trammuseum.
