In 1904-06 a total of
24 new tramcars were constructed by "A Constructora". The original
numbers were 43-54, 57-66 & 68-69. They were in American style with six windows
at each side.
Like
the converted mule cars they had longitudinal seats with seating
for 22. This configuration of seats gave them their nicknames:
Risca ão meio does mean "Divided into halves".
In
their youth this series worked on the line to Matosinhos via Foz
with up to three trailers.
Their original open platforms received windscreens in the 1920s.
Seven
cars of this type came to the STCP (series 105-111, with the CCFP
they had the numbers 105, 103, 104, 108, 124, 126 & 205). One
(107) was
reconstructed in 1952 by the STCP getting extended
platforms as can be seen of this photo of 1972 in front
of Boavista depot. The 107 is brought back in the original style and belongs to the
Massarelos museum-collection.

The 169 on the Praça (detail of an
old postcard). The 169 has two trolley poles which means
it could be used on the Ponte D.Luiz I. On the bridge the
use of double trolley poles was obligatory.
