A quite primitive motorcar and an
open wagon stowed with luggage, probably of emigrants to
Brasil. |
During
many years the Porto tram did ride special trams for the
transport of freight. Also in the STCP-period there were still a
number (79, 80, 82, 83, 84, 86, 88 & 90) of trailers for
freight transport.
However the history of the goodstrams is even darker than the
early history of the passenger trams. Known is that fish and wine
were regular customers. Fish was transported from the sidings at
Godinho to the Market at Anjo. Wine from the site in Matosinhos
of the Companhia Vinicola Portugueza. But also coal for
the supply of firing for the own power plant was brought by trams from the mine
in Sao Pedro da Cova. Notes are found about coal transport to Campanhã and the
gas-works, and the
transport of furniture. Sand, indispensable for working rail traffic, was probably
gotten from the sand-bank in the mouth of the river and brought by tram to the
depots. For many years a siding was located at A Cantareira to stable sand
wagons.
Of the
special rolling stock only a wagon for the transport of fish
still exists. Probably also Vagão 76 original was used for goods
transport.
