Guindais funicular

The 1891 funicular

On June 4th 1891 a funicular was opened at Guindais. The lower end was at Ribeira near the lower deck of the Ponte Luiz I, the upper end at Rua Augusto Rosa, near Batalha. The length of the line was 412 m, the elevation 114 m. Two years later (June 5th 1893) a serious accident did happen. Although repairs were done, the line was not opened again.

The 2004 funicular

A new funicular is built on the same location. This new line was opened February 19th 2004.
The cars have a capacity of 25 persons each.
