1872 (March 9th) - Opening of the line from Infante to Foz (Castelo) alongside the river by the Companhia Carril Americano do Porto á Foz e Matosinhos. Traction by mules. (Official opening May 15)

1872 - Opening of the branch Carmo - Massarelos. Services to and from Foz terminate partly at Infante and partly at Carmo.

1873 - Extension of the line from Foz (Castelo) alongside the Atlantic to Matosinhos.

1874 (August 14th) - Opening of the line from Praça Carlos Alberto to Foz (Cadouços) via Boavista and Fonte da Moura by the Companhia Carris de Ferro do Porto. Traction by mules.

1875 - Opening of the first urban lines by the Companhia Carris de Ferro do Porto: Boavista - Campanhã and Bolhão - Aguardente (Marques de Pombal). Traction by mules.

1876 (November 3rd) - Fire in Boavista depot.

1878 - Conversion of traction on Boavista - Foz (Cadouços) to steam.

1882 - Extension of the steam tramline from Foz (Cadouços) to Matosinhos (Roberto Ivens) via the Rua de Gondarem.

1893 (January 18th) - Merging of both companies. The new company taking the name of the Companhia Carris de Ferro do Porto (CCFP).

1895 (September 12th) - Start of the electric operation from Carmo to Arrábida. Power supply by a CCFP owned generating station at Arrábida.

1896 - Start of the electric operation from Infante to Massarelos.

1897 - Extension of the electric operation to Foz (April 2nd), Castelo do Queijo (May 24th) and Matosinhos (October 29th).

1899 (May 19th) - First urban line electrified. (Praça Dom Pedro - Praça Marquês de Pombal)

1904 (September 22nd) - Terminating of the mule traction by electrification of the line from Carmo to Paranhos.

1905 (October 28th) - Opening of the tramline on the upper deck of the Ponte Dom Luiz I to Gaia.

1912 - Introduction of route numbers.

1914 - Terminating of the steam tramline by replacement of electric traction on reserved track on the completed Avenida de Boavista instead of the Fonte de Moura - Cadouços - Rua de Gondarem route.

1915 - Opening of the CCFP's power plant at Massarelos.

1928 (February 28th) - Fire in Boavista depot. Also 21 motor cars, 4 trailers, 2 freight cars and 1 freight trailer went lost.

1946 (July 1st) - The municipality takes over the system. New name: Serviço de Transportes Colectivos do Porto (STCP).

1948 (April 1st) - Introduction of the first motorbus line (Avenida dos Aliados - Carvalhido).

1948 - Tramsystem: 82 km with 191 motor cars. Bussystem 26 km with 15 busses.

1950 - The tram system reaches its maximum extension with 82 route km and 150 track km.

1951 - The workshops of the STCP deliver a prototype for a new generation of tramcars. This car (carro 500) appears to be the last new tramcar.

1957 - Closure of the power plant in Massarelos.

1958 - Tramsystem: 81 km with 192 motor cars. Bussystem 110 km with 51 busses.

1959 (January 1st) - Terminating of the first tram lines prior to conversion into trolleybus routes.

1959 (May 3rd) - Introduction of the first four trolleybus lines.

1966 - Tramsystem: 72 km with 184 motor cars. Trolleybussystem: 20 km with 37 trolleybusses. Bussystem 157 km with 165 busses.

1966 (December 31st) - Trailer operations terminated.

1967 - Terminating of the first tramlines to be replaced by motorbus instead of trolleybus. Tramsystem: 44 km with 130 cars. Trolleybussystem: 37 km with 91 trolleybuses. Bussystem 201 km with 241 buses.

1968 - Tramsystem: 38 km with 127 cars. Trolleybussystem: 44 km with 101 trolleybuses. Bussystem 206 km with 246 buses.

1978 - Tram and trolleybus services cease at 21h00. Tramsystem: 21 km with 84 cars. Trolleybussystem: 40 km with 101 trolleybuses. Bussystem 265 km with 467 buses.

1983 - Terminating of all tram services on Sundays.

1988 - Tramsystem: 18 km with 50 cars. Trolleybussystem: 41 km with 119 trolleybuses. Bussystem 344 km with 537 buses.

1988 - Boavista replaced by Massarelos as running depot. Workshops retained in Boavista (also for trolleybuses and motorbuses). Due to road-works, the trams returned several times to Boavista: March - July 1991, June - November 1998 and February - May 1999.

1992 - Opening of the trammuseum Massarelos.

1996 (June) - Tram services on the only remaining line (18) restricted to 9h00 - 19h00. Working on Sundays reintroduced. Only 3 tramcars provide a 35 minutes frequency.

1996 - Tramsystem: 14 km with 16 cars. Trolleybussystem: 24 km with 25 trolleybuses. Bussystem 407 km with 562 buses.

1997 (December 27th) - Closure of the last trolleybus line.

1999 (August) - Scrap of the Boavista depot.

2002 (December 7th) - Opening of the first line of the Metro do Porto: Trinidade - Senhora da Hora - Senhor de Matosinhos.
