Eurotram

A new light rail system is built by a new company in which, together with the STCP, also the CP (Portuguese Railways) is involved. The narrow gauge railways to Póvoa de Varzim and Trofa were incorporated.

In December 2001 test runnings did start on a short section of the new light rail system near the depot Guifões. In June 2002 test runnings with passengers did start between Viso and CM de Matosinhos. On 7 December 2002 the first line was opened.

As rolling stock 72 Eurotrams were acquired. In 2009 the first of 30 Flexity Swift trams were put in service.
