STCP designs

After the municipality took over the CCFP and converted it into the STCP, studies were done to modernise the fleet. It was decided to built bi-directional bogie trams with the following characteristics:

  • commonwealth bogies (probably - this would allow the car to operate all routes) with four motors

  • seating for about 40 with 60 more people standing

  • length 13.65 m and width 2.35 m

However it appeared in those years (short after World War II) to be impossible to acquire the necessary bogies and electric equipment. Instead of the modern bogie trams, two types of single-end 4-wheel cars were made:

  • a rather primitive model nicknamed Pipi

  • a prototype for the never constructed bogie trams: Carro 500.
