Ermesinde
History
In 1876 the mule tram-line was opened to Largo da
Aguardente. This line was extended on 12 May 1877 to Cruz
das Regateiras (Hospital Conde de Ferreira). In 1882 the
line from Praça Dom Pedro V to Ingleses (Infante) was
opened and exploitation done as extension of the Costa
Cabral line. This last part was electrified in 1898.
The line from Praça until Hospital Conde de Ferreira
was electrified in 1899. This line was extended to Areosa in
1910, to Águas Santas in 1911 and to Ermesinde in
1916. Until 1914 there was a service with the route Infante
- Praça da Liberdade - Praça Marquês de
Pombal - Rua Costa Cabral - Areosa, which was indicated with
"A" since the introduction of line numbers in 1912.
In 1925 line 9 was diverted following a new road crossing
the Minho/Douro railway under a viaduct.
From 1950 until 1959 line 9// was linked at Batalha with
line 14/. Starting 1960 lines 9 & 9/ were linked at
Praça da Liberdade with line 1
Line 9 closed 17 September 1967.

Rolling stock
The CCFP used on line 9 in 1935 normally 9 bogie-cars, 5
cars with seating for 28 and 2 cars with seating for 23.
The STCP used all bi-directional types, mainly the bogie
cars on the routes 9 & 9/. On route 9// narrow
cars (UEC, Brill-23) in the 1950's, later often series
250-261. On line 9// small trailers series 8-24 were used.
Revenue
In 1958 these lines took part of 13.9% of the revenue of the
tram system.
